LeavesMost plants' food is made in their leaves. Leaves are designed to capture sunlight which the plant uses to make food through a process called photosynthesis. These are the parts of the plant where food is made by photosynthesis. Leaves take in carbon dioxide from the air, water from the soil, and energy from the sunlight. During photosynthesis, the leaves use light energy to change carbon dioxide and water into food. (sugar)
Different shapes. Almost always green but sometimes covered with another colour such as red. Green substance in leaves -> chlorophyll. Leaves make food for the plant. To do this they need the water and mineral salts obtained from the soil. They are carried inside little veins in the leaf. To make food leaves also need sunshine and CO2. |
